Project 324 first began as an idea in 2006. The group initially practiced under the name "The Jam Band" under the direction of several adult mentors. After gaining some experience from this group, the members of the band decided to break off and form their own band. The original four member of this new group included lead singer Danny Sly, bassist Mike Vangel, drummer Julian Loida, and lead guitarist Trevor DeHart.
Upon playing their first gig, the new group of musicians arrived upon the name "Project 324," based solely on the address of the practice space used by the band. Project 324 played primarily household parties during this stage of their development.
In 2008, the band's lead singer, Danny Sly, approached Ian Miller, a pianist who attended Danny's school. He asked Ian to sit in on a show for them as the keyboardist. However, the band decided that the keyboard added another dimension to the music it was playing and Ian became the fifth member of Project 324.
In early 2010, the band decided to part with bassist Mike Vangel due to his commitments to college and artistic differences. He was replaced with the talented Paul Brackens, who added creative bass lines and a fun stage presence to the band.
Project 324 immediately began expanding their repertoire, soon playing at venues located throughout St. Louis and even earning an opening spot at KSHE's Rocktoberfest. Katy Kruze, the well-established radio personality at KSHE, exclaimed Project 324 to be the "future of KSHE 95."
